Love in the Forest: Bambi

Bambi is the 5th of Walt Disney's animated films. When you watch the film, you feel the beauty of nature and the love that flows in all living creatures. Although the hunters are depicted as cruel, unfeeling people, that isn't necessarily true. Yes, Bambi shows the affects of hunting for sport through the eyes of the animals. But I hope that today's hunters would not kill a deer if it had a fawn with it.

Once upon a time, a doe gives birth to her fawn, who she names Bambi, on a beautiful Spring day. All the animals of the forest flock to see the new "prince". Why is Bambi called the Young Prince? His father, the Great Prince of the Forest, is almost like a leader among the deer in the forest. As quoted by Bambi's mother, "For of all the deer in the forest, not one has lived half so long. He's very brave, and very wise." Now Bambi has to learn to be like him, and when he is grown up and mates with a doe named Faline, the hunters arrive once more. Will he be able to protect himself and Faline?

A lot of this story is told with music. Bambi is one of those Disney films that doesn't have a huge amount of dialogue. When we do have a musical segment in the film, it expresses the current emotion and goes in rhythm to the life in the forest. The music in Bambi goes hand in hand with its theme: Love.

Bambi is one of the most beautiful love stories in Disney movies. It's different because we see what lengths the deer go to for the one they love. First Bambi has to fight another buck for Faline. When they are together, Bambi must protect Faline from danger. That even means facing a whole pack of vicious hunting dogs. Is this how the deer really love?

A word concerning father and son: In real life, deer don't really have a relationship with their father. Bambi changes that. When Bambi's mother dies, the Great Prince raises Bambi himself. Bambi growing up with his father can be seen In Bambi II. The Great Prince is very serious, but we know he loves Bambi as his son.
